The Brownsville Independent School District was allocated $185,350,977 dollars for public education purposes under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III (ESSER III) Fund. The district will engage in meaningful discussion with students, families, local campuses, teachers, principals, staff, and district administrators and give the public an opportunity to provide input in the development of its plan for the use of these funds.
Once the district receives the funding within 30 days, the district is required to post the “Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan” on their website. The district must spend a minimum of 20% of the grant funds on addressing learning loss, such as evidence-based interventions, summer learning, extended day and comprehensive after-school programs, or extended school year programs.
In addition, the district must purchase educational technology equipment for students, such as hardware, software, and connectivity, provide mental health services and supports, including implementation of evidence based full-service community schools, and school facility repairs and improvements to enhance the indoor air quality and to enable operation of schools to reduce the risk of virus transmission.
